This technological diversification is the result of a recent acquisition based in Loveland, Colorado, USA.

With a strong team of 80 members and equipped with eight injection molding machines dedicated to Thixomolding technology, this plant allows Clayens to offer new technological options to its clients.

What is Thixomolding?

Thixomolding is a semi-solid magnesium injection technique that combines the intrinsic characteristics of the material with the productivity of injection technology derived from thermoplastics. This technology enables the molding of thin-walled parts, granting them an unparalleled strength/weight ratio. The tolerances achieved through this technology are competing with the best thermoplastics, through a Net Shape transformation process.

Magnesium, being one of the most common and abundant elements on Earth and 100% recyclable, positions itself in the class of sustainable materials with low environmental impact.

The Value and Applications of this Technology for medical devices

The strength of Thixomolding lies in its ability to harness magnesium, a naturally light metal. This characteristic enables the design of more ergonomic and manageable medical devices, thus enhancing their utility. Additionally, parts produced through this method combine lightness with remarkable sturdiness, ensuring not only an extended lifespan of the devices but also heightened reliability, thereby minimizing risks linked to potential malfunctions.

The range of medical applications for products manufactured at our Loveland plant spans from advanced electromedical systems and surgical robots to protective gear and oxygen concentrators.

" The acquisition of this Thixomolding expertise is a strategic leap forward for Clayens, adding a valuable string to our technological bow. For those who haven't yet explored this technology, I invite them to envision medical devices that are even more efficient, lightweight, and reliable. It is through innovation and diversification that we continue to best meet the needs of our clients."  Thierry MARTIN, Design Department Manager of Clayens.
